Hi! My name is Riley Williams. I am a doctoral candidate at Trevecca Nazarene University in the education department, and I am partnering with the Camp All Saints – Jolt program for my dissertation project. My research explores the effects of an outdoor environmental and adventure education program has on students’ environmental literacy.
I grew up on Lake Texoma and have always enjoyed the adventure and tranquility found in the outdoors. In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, kayaking, swimming, and sailing. I graduated from Durant High School in 2010, Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 2012, and Harvard University in 2017.
While at Harvard, I completed a master’s thesis – a state-wide baseline environmental literacy assessment of Oklahoma public high school students. Of the 1000 students surveyed from 20 schools across the state, only 2% exhibited the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors indicative of having environmental literacy.
I was inspired by what I learned from my thesis to complete my dissertation on determining if an outdoor environmental and adventure education program like Jolt could affect high school students’ environmental literacy.
I invite you to review my proposed research and please feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss the details of the proposal further.
Thank you for your consideration.
